How To Feel Good Without Makeup (Even With Acne!)│ Skincare Tips & More!

Of course, every girl wants to feel comfortable and beautiful in their natural skin, but it can be hard, especially when acne is involved. Society tends to look down on people who have imperfections and praises the people that have absolute perfect skin.

How To Feel Good Without Makeup

We should be able to go outside and still feel beautiful in our own natural skin no matter what imperfections we have. We should not be bringing people down for having acne or other skin imperfections, because it is hard enough to go through the struggle of acne.

Over the years, I have become more comfortable in my bare skin, even though I still deal with small breakouts here and there. Throughout this painful… okay, maybe not painful, but very emotional process of acceptance, I have found multiple things that can be done to feel good while still wearing no makeup, even with the constant struggle of acne.

Good Hygiene

The first thing I start out with is getting clean on a very basic human level.

This means: taking a shower!

I make sure that I wash my hair, cleanse my body, and (of course) shave all the places that need to be on my body. I do not wash my hair everyday, but I do make sure to wash my hair every other day since my hair gets oily fast.

I always feel better not wearing makeup when I practice good hygiene by making sure that I am completely clean and fully refreshed.. because we all know that we have those randoms days (especially during the weekend) when we have nothing to do so we do not feel like getting ready… Just me? No? Yes? Please tell me you do!

Anyway, it is always important to clean yourself everyday, especially when you are planning on not wearing makeup so that you can feel a little bit brighter about yourself!

Who ever feels good about being dirty? Not me!

Now for the favorite part of my day: SKINCARE!

Skincare is so important for me because it makes my face feel so refreshed and control my breakouts!

I stated a looooonngg time ago in my My Current Skincare Routine post that I had just started using my tea tree range from The Body Shop and I have been absolutely loving it! It helps keep my breakouts at bay and really gives me a refreshing feel to my face.

I start off by using The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Foaming Cleanser to cleanse my face which is such a gentle foam and treats acne without being too harsh. I always use my Mary Kay Cleansing brush to really get a deep clean.

Then I will go in with The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Mattifying Facial Toner all over my face on a small cotton ball or cotton pad. It gives your skin that refreshing coolness to it that is so satisfying.

Next, I will grab my Art Naturals Vitamin C Serum* and apply a dime sized amount to my face. This helps to even your skin tone for a bright complexion. It also helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. I mentioned this in my April 2017 Favorites post and cannot stop raving about it!

Of course, then I will go in with a moisturizer and I use the Olay Complete All Day Moisturizer with SPF 15*. I have been using this for sooo many years now! It is seriously the best moisturizer that gets rid of any dryness and restores moisture to the face.

Finally, since I do still struggle with very mild acne, I always use The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil as a spot treatment. I will just apply it to any problem areas with a q-tip and it gets rid of pimples within – NO JOKE – one day!

Appearance Enhancements

Since this is a “How To Feel Good Without Makeup” post, obviously we are not going to be applying any makeup, but there are things to do to make sure you look a little more presentable than just throwing on some clothes and heading out the door.

First, we are going to start with hair… because we are not throwing our hair up in a messy bun today ladies, no matter how much of a trend it is!

As I talked about in my —— post, I do not use any hot tools on my hair (which is why I have super long, healthy hair). I feel my most confident when my hair is down if I am not going to be wearing makeup, so I try to wear my hair down, especially if I had cleaned my hair that day.

I pretty much just let my hair air dry after the shower and then brush it out. Once it is dry and brushed out, I then go in with my African Essence Oil Free Shine Silicone Crystal Drops* to make my hair become super soft! (I talked about this product in my —- post as well! It is my hair savior!)

After my hair is all silky smooth, I like to apply a lip exfoliant to my lips to give them that extra care. I am currently using the Mint Maniac lip exfoliant from e.l.f and it really makes your lips super soft and kissable! I just apply it to my lips and then wipe off the excess product.

Then I follow up with my favorite Chapstick Duos to moisturize my lips for some extra softness. I really like to take care of my lips when I am not wearing makeup because… well, who wants to have dry crusty lips?! I’ll pass on that one!

Wear your smile

On days when I am wearing no makeup but want to feel a bit more put together I will wear something comfortable, but a little bit dressier than sweats or yoga pants.

(honestly I live in sweats and yoga pants — don’t let me fool you completely)

My favorite is to wear a comfortable summer dress, especially in the hot weather of Arizona. Or if it is a tad breezy, I will wear some jeans and a nice top to go with it.

By dressing it up casually, it boosts my mood and over all thoughts about my appearance because I am not slumping around in PJ’s or lounge clothes.

  1. I’ve suffered with acne for about eight years now and finally got treatment for it. Now it’s clearing up, I still have red marks and scars, but even the smallest improvements have made me feel more confident about wearing less make up. I don’t cake on the foundation anymore which is a huge step from where I was! Also I just want to say that you look so gorgeous and happy in these pictures, keep smiling sweetpea! xxx

    • Thank you for sharing that♥ This post is here for people to open up about their insecurities and their stories of strength through them. That makes me so happy to hear that you finally have given up foundation! That was a huge step for me years ago and was so happy once I stopped wearing it and saw my skin clearing up! Even for girls that wear foundation all the time and still want to , it is good to let the skin breathe. I completely agree with you on how even the slightest improvement in clearing up acne gives confidence♥ Stay strong love♥

  2. I love this post! I absolutely love having a no make up day – it helps the skin to breath but I agree, you need to feel comfortable as well. It’s taken me years, but I’m now there thanks to a good skincare routine, a balanced diet and taking care of myself. Great post!
