Most Raved About Drugstore Makeup Products
Drugstore has been KILLING it lately! I have seen so many reviews and YouTube videos on recent drugstore makeup products and how drugstore brands are really stepping it up to show us what they got! Since there has been so much rave about quite a few drugstore products, I took a trip to Ulta and Walmart to pick up some of these products and tell you a little about them!
In my previous years, I have always used pretty much all drugstore makeup in my routines as it was the most affordable for me. I was not able to buy all the expensive high-end makeup brands since I had to buy all my makeup products myself if I wanted to wear makeup. The thing is though, when I used to wear a full face of makeup everyday… even if I was just going to the store real quick (yes I used to be that girl)… drugstore makeup was not that good! That’s because it was years ago that I wore makeup everyday. I actually stopped wearing any and all facial makeup products about 5 years ago because my acne was horrendous. My face just needed time to heal and breath from all the products I was putting on my face… But that’s a different story for another time. Let me know if you want a post on my experience of deciding to fully stop wearing makeup because I would love to share that you lovely people because – let me tell you – it was a journey! It wasn’t until recently that I started getting back into all makeup products.. INCLUDING foundations and other facial makeup items.
Anyway, back to the topic of today’s post! Let’s just dive in to the most raved about drugstore makeup products!
When I used to wear makeup all the time, primers were not really popular but now I know how important they are to achieve that flawless finish and to prep the skin before foundation application. E.L.F has been a drugstore brand that has always known to be one of the cheapest (price-wise) drugstore brands but has been raved about a lot recently, especially the primers. I decided to pick up the E.L.F Poreless Face Primer* and now I know what all the rave is about! This primer is only $6.00 and reduces the appearance of fine lines/wrinkles and enlarged pores as well as reduces shine with it’s matte finish. It is infused with Tea Tree which is why I clung to it so much because Tea Tree is my go-to skincare product to help keep my skin clear and acne-free if you didn’t already know that from My Current Skincare Routine + The Body Shop Tea Tree Review post! This primer also includes Vitamins A & E to contribute to restoring the skin. Although this primer is matte, it still has this hydrating feeling to it that is just delightful!
So for foundation, I have two drugstore brands that I want to talk about! I have seen so many YouTubers talk about these two drugstore foundations that I just had to pick them up and see what all the rave is about. The first foundation is the Nyx Total Control Drop foundation and it is priced at $13.99, which is on the higher price side of drugstore but hear me out! This foundation can be used to get any kind of coverage desired from light to full coverage depending on how many drops of the product is used. It even contains the drop ratio on the box to show you how many drops to use for the coverage you want! This Nyx foundation comes to a velvety matte finish that give such a flawless look (even with a light coverage look)! The thing that I loved about this foundation is that it does not feel cakey and is very lightweight on the skin no matter how many drops you use!
The next drugstore foundation that has been raved about is the Wet N Wild Photo Focus foundation and it retails for $5.99 (Yeah you heard me right… only $5.99) . This product claims to make your skin look flawless even with camera flash. The Wet N Wild website says that this foundation went through seven different lighting tests with and without flash to make sure they provide the perfect formula that performs the best in photos to make you “camera-ready” every time you use it! It is a matte finish foundation that is supposed to give you that #nofilter look as it prevents white cast in photos. I mean… Who can complain for $5.99! I am planning on doing a full review in a couple weeks so make sure to look out for that as I, myself, will test it out in different lighting!
Now on to concealers… I also have two concealers that I have seen so many review on lately! To go with my Nyx Total Conrol Drop foundation, I picked up the Nyx Hi Definition Photo Concealer* that costs $4.99. This is considered one of Nyx Cosmetic’s best sellers! It is non-comedogenic so it won’t clog your pores and it has a medium to full coverage. It blends out fabulously on the skin and does not feel heavy!
The second concealer I picked up is the CoverGirl Ready Set Gorgeous concealer*. This product has actually been a staple product in my routine and is the only concealer my sister uses! The price is $7.99 and gives great coverage for a crease-less look all day long. It feels lightweight but covers all dark circles under the eyes and imperfections on the skin to create a flawless canvas. This product is also oil-free so it is perfect for acne prone skin and can even be used by itself without foundation for a natural look as it blends out very well on the skin!
Setting Powders & Sprays
Setting the face after applying foundation and concealer is really important to make sure makeup stays in place all day! I purchased two lovely products… one being a translucent setting powder and the other being a setting spray… that I have noticed being talked about a lot lately. First, I got the Rimmel London Stay Matte Translucent Pressed Powder and it retails for $4.99. This power absorbs oil and gives a shine free finish that lasts all day! I did not have to touch up my powder once (which is a miracle for me as I have excessive oily skin) and my makeup stayed matte all day! This powder also glides over the face to diminish appearance of pores leaving skin with a smooth complexion finish.
The Nyx Matte Finish Makeup Setting Spray* was the next raved about product that I want to talk about today and it only costs $7.99! The formula of this setting spray gives your skin that matte finish that is long lasting throughout the day. This product helps to set all makeup and melt the powders into your face for perfectly perfect blended result. The combination of this setting spray with the Rimmel London Stay Matte powder made my makeup stay in place all day without any touch ups which is what any girl would want!
Now, I was never a girl who was huge in blush (especially the bright or bold colors) but it has become such a raved about product and, now that I have actually tried it, I love adding blush to my routine! Milani is a drugstore brand that has come out with some beautiful blushes that everyone has been talking about and it retails for only about $8.00. The blush I picked up is the Milani Baked Blush* in the shade Luminoso, which is this beautiful light peachy color that is subtle but still give the cheeks a little pop of color! It is the perfect shade for light skinned women who just want a natural pop of color to give a little life to their cheeks. It has this luminosity to it that adds some radiance to the skin that is just dreamy!
Contouring is a makeup trend that has became so popular shortly after my decision to quit wearing makeup. I finally was able to find out what all the rave was about and am now obsessed with contouring! The Wet N Wild MegaGlo Contouring Palette is something that has been raved about so much lately so I just had to try it out… not only because people have raved about it, but because it was only $4.99 for this palette (pinch me, I must be dreaming)! I got it in the color Dulce De Leche and found that it was super easy to use! This palette sculpts your face flawlessly and is the perfect combination of colors to achieve the perfect definition and highlight. It is also very easy to blend to get a seemingly perfect makeup look!
